Sofant Technologies to showcase smart micro antenna technology at Mobile World Congress
Smart micro antenna pioneers, Sofant Technologies, announced today it is attending Mobile World Congress later this month following its high profile debut at CES in January.
Barcelona's Mobile World Congress is the world's largest mobile trade show where mobile operators, device manufacturers and technology companies come together every year. It is believed that Sofant will use the opportunity to reveal important news.
Sofant is the first company to use miniaturised smart antenna in mobile devices, its revolutionary SmartAntennaTM consuming 90% less energy and doubling battery life. This significant milestone in the evolution of the antenna could make short battery life, dropped calls and poor signal quality a thing of the past.
Sergio Tansini, Sofant's CEO explains: "Mobile devices are capable of performing ever more powerful and sophisticated tasks. Consumers expect the highest standards of performance, however that performance is constrained by the inherent limitations of antennae today. Our SmartAntennaTM will finally unlock the full potential of smartphones and tablets.
Mobile World Congress will be an important opportunity for us to showcase this technology to the industry at a time when the rollout of new communication protocols including LTE and 4G means ever-increasing pressure on existing antennae."
Headquartered in Scotland, Sofant has developed three core technologies comprising RF MEMS, antenna and software. This powerful combination provides a steerable and focussed antenna - SmartAntennaTM - that can lock onto the best signal available at any given time.
By improving the rate of data transfer SmartAntennaTM provides a higher level of connectivity than conventional antennae. It also consumes 90% less energy, boosting battery life.
As well as benefiting individual mobile devices, SmartAntennaTM reduces network congestion caused by a signals and dropped connections, diminishing the need for more base stations.
SmartAntennaTM will also address other mobile device constraints including suitability for large numbers of frequency bands.
Together with Sofant's tunable RF MEMS based modules - AvtoRFTM - and Sofant Intelligent Software SISTM, the company's technology enables superior performance, reliable connections, lower RF power consumption and better signal quality, eliminating issues such as 'dead zones'.
The technologies can be licensed individually or as a single smart micro antenna system.
